Drug treatment court pilot project

Paramaribo, Suriname.

 

This activity is being organized under the EU-LAC Drug Treatment City Partnerships, as the result of previous meetings and agreements between the city and government officials (national drug commission and national security), as well as Judges and Prosecutors from the Justice, department, and the prosecutor’s office of Paramaribo (Suriname), and Ghent (Belgium).

EU-LAC Group:

Group 3. Treatment alternatives to incarceration for drug dependent offenders

Title of the activity:

EU-LAC Workshop and good practice exchange. Promoting the first Drug treatment court pilot project in Suriname

Organization:

Ministry of Justice and Police with the cooperation of Ministry of Health

The total expected audience for this activity will be 50

Beneficiaries:

Workshop for Surinamese stakeholders including: the court the  prosecution office,   treatment institutions, psychiatric institution, detoxification institution,  prison, police force, policy makers on drug treatment, policy makers, politician, media,

 

Expected results:

  • Public awareness

  • Set up the basis for a drug treatment court pilot porject

Financial contribution from CICAD through this initiative:

CICAD, through the EU-LAC initiative, will cover the travel expenses and accommodation of the two participants from Ghent (airfare in economy class through a travel agency arranged by CICAD), and per-diem (expected duration of the workshop is 3 days) to cover accommodation and allowance

Financial (direct or in-kind) contribution from Suriname:

The Government of Suriname will cover the cost regarding the Workshop:

-          the coffee breaks, lunch, the conference room including equipment beamer, etc

-          transportation to visit  all treatment centre and other institutions dealing with drug and drug treatment

-          transportation from and to the airport, hotel for the delegation

-          Dinners

-          Media ( television, newspaper)

-          Local transportation
